Color System¶
Color System¶
The Color System is how the Builder assigns materials and colors based on the choices the User makes when customizing their shed.
JDM allows up to 4 colors to be assigned to a shed:
-
Roof Color: Applies to the Roof of the shed.
- On Steel sheds, portions of the Fascia use this color as well.
-
Color 1: Primarily applies to the Walls.
- By default corner trim, Vents, Soffits and Fascia all start as using this color on Smartside and Smartlap sheds.
- For Vinyl Sheds, only the Soffit uses the Primary color.
- Steel Sheds also use this swatch for the main color of the door.
-
Color 2: The secondary color applies to Doors, Door Trim and Window Trim on Smartside and Smartlap sheds.
- For Vinyl Sheds, the Corner Trim and Fasica are controlled not by swatches, but by the Misc. Color options panel.
- Steel Sheds this for the accent color of the door.
-
Color 3: The tertiary is not assigned to assets by default.
These colors are represented by the swatch on the right side of the 3D View. By selecting one of these swatches, a list of colors that are available for this field becomes available in the Options Panel on the right side of the screen.
- Depending on the Siding Type, the configuration of what colors are in which slot will change. For more information on this, see the Color Documentation.
Assigning a Color¶
By selecting a different Color from the list, the selected swatch will have it's color updated. Any asset that has this color assigned to it will likewise be updates to reflect the change.
Certain assets however, can have the color assignment changed to a different swatch.
- Roofs and Walls cannot have any swatch other than the Roof Swatch, and Color 1 respectively.
Assigning a color to an asset will be achieved in one of two ways:
-
Dragging a color swatch to an option in the 2D panel. If the option's icon in the 2D Window changes color, the color swatch can be reassigned.
- Some Options have multiple components that can have their color reassigned. If this is the case, a pop up window will appear asking what the user wants to apply the new color to.
-
The final subcategory in 'Finishes' is the Misc. Color Panel. This is a series of categories that can change the color assignment of a given asset. These cannot be changed by dragging the swatch onto them, and are controlled by radio button.
Some options have color selections that only apply to them, but are not part of the colors system. These are known as Static Materials, and will not change no matter what action the user takes.
- Example: Porch Posts.
Color Schemes¶
Color Schemes are a set of colors that can be quickly assigned to a shed.
Assigning a Color Scheme will overwrite any color choices the user has made, and update any assets that have had their colors reassigned.
For more information on Color Schemes, see the Color Documentation in the resources section.
Dynamic Materials and Color¶
Every asset in Shedbuilder, Bosman and Garagebuilder use a dynamic color system that allows for different materials and colors to be updated based on the configuration of the shed. The most common example of this system at work is the wall siding changing based on the material selected during the 'Choosing a Shed' section, and the color of the siding during the 'Design a Shed' section.
A full breakdown of how the Dynamic Color System works can be found here.
