Stair Placement Rules¶
Besides specific criteria for each type of stair, there must be loft to support the staircase that is being added.
Stairs With Landing¶
The Stairs with Landings require several conditions to be met in order to add them to a Shed. The first is identifying if a Shed can actually have a set of Stairs built into them. This is handled in the through the Include/Exclude system, and Sancsoft manually determines which set of stairs fits on which shed. If no staircase can be added under normal circumstances, Sancsoft checks if it can be added with a Drop loft. If, with a Drop Loft applied, a staircase is still will not fit, then no staircase will be available for this Modelsize.
Installation Criteria by JDM¶
- The trusses have larger bottom chords
- 14' to 16' wide sheds have a 2x8 Loft Joist
- 20' to 24' wide sheds have a 2x12 Loft Joist
- Stairs require a 76” clearance from the top of the first step to the bottom of the bottom chord
- The Head room from the top of the loft to the bottom of the top chords is 55”.
- The stairs reach from the corner to approximately halfway into the shed.
- Each stair run is 9.75”
- Each stair rise is no greater than 8.25”
- The landing is 36” wide
- Some lofts can be dropped to allow additional sheds to receive staircases
- The top of the dropped loft is even with the top of the wall
Additional Criteria by Sancsoft¶
While implementing stairs throughout the builder, there were some additional instances Sancsoft discovered did not allow stairs to be built.
- Sheds such as the Lexington have stairs only allowed on the 'Back' wall, as the porch being included in the footprint forced the stairs to be moved inward more. Once this was accounted for, it was discovered that there was not enough headroom to allow stairs to be placed.
Drop Down Stairs¶
Drop Down stairs have fewer stipulations to add to a shed. The measurements for the pulldown stairway need to be 30” clearance at each end of the stairway for any model.
